People keep asking me how I fill my time now I’m not running a cafe, and it’s hard to describe just how much I have in my life that I am now so grateful I’m able to get on and do.
Something that’s picked up momentum recently is writing. I’ve always been a writer, since I was a child I’ve kept diaries, had ideas for books and poems, kept notes all over the place when ideas have popped in my head. Now it feels like the right time to get on and finish something…or three. I’m working on three book ideas simultaneously! What does that say about the way my brain works? It doesn’t feel like too much, it actually helps me to know that if I get fed up with or stuck on one of them, I can focus on one of the others.
Something I’ve written today that will probably go into a book I’m working on about my colourful past (including lots of sex!) is about coming to the realisation that you have to prioritise yourself as you are the only one you can rely on in your pursuit of happiness.
“It’s important to make yourself a priority, because as much as people might love and care about you, they’ll always have their own problems and insecurities that will get I the way of them showing you all the love and concern they might feel. This means you can’t rely on anyone else to do what is best and right for you. Everyone is just making life up as they go along and doing the best they can, and when you realise that means there are people who love you but they will never be able to make you feel complete or healed, you can make the choice to heal yourself.
If you’re interested in following my progress with these book ideas, and anything else I’m working on – art, wellbeing classes, writing up my notes on Buddhist teachings, I’ll keep writing blogs here.
