The point of this exercise was to observe areas of light and dark, the gradations of tone and the cast shadows and reflections throughout the chosen still life scene.
Possibly because I used a brown conte stick, I found it quite difficult to create the right darkness of tone where I felt it was needed, and spent a long time going back over the drawing to achieve the appropriate shading and tones. Looking at it now though I’m quite pleased with the overall effect. I’m not sure if I have managed to get the areas of tone to work together, I tried to complete this by using the conte stick on it’s side and make sweeping movements from darker areas to light and also swirling motions.
